SHAFER, William Thompson, a Representative from Chester County; born, February 17, 1825; carpenter; teacher; farmer; dry goods merchant; aide-de-camp, Governor James Pollock (1855-1858); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1858, 1859 and 1860; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1861); elected, school director, West Pikeland Township; elected, auditor, West Pikeland Township; died, April 3, 1882 in West Pikeland Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania; interred, Oaklands Cemetery, West Chester, Chester County, Pennsylvania.
