SHANNON, Peter Chrysostom, a Representative from Allegheny County; born, August of 1821 in New Alexandria, Westmoreland County, Pa.; lieutenant colonel, 117th Regiment, 13th Pennsylvania Volunteer Cavalry (1861, Civil War); attorney (1845-1899); unsuccessful Democratic campaign, United States Congress (1852); appointed, president judge, Allegheny County (1852); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1862 and 1863 terms; presidential appointee, chief justice, Supreme Court of the Dakota Territory (1873-1881); presidential appointee, Commission on Negotiating Land Sales with the Sioux (1873-1882); died, April 13, 1899 in San Diego, San Diego County, California; interred, Calvary Cemetery (now Calvary Memorial Pioneer Park), San Diego, San Diego County, California.
