GROSS, Dr. Augustus H., a Representative from Allegheny County; born, circa 1820 in Hesse, Germany; physician; elected as a Union Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1862 term; reelected to the House as a Republican for the 1863 term; unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania State Senate (1864); elected, select council, Pittsburgh (1870-1876, president, 1871-1876); unsuccessful campaign, mayor, Pittsburgh (1871, 1874); died, July 22, 1878 in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania; interred, Allegheny Cemetery, Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
