FREELAND, James, a Representative from Dauphin County; born, September 9, 1809 in Pennsylvania; contractor, Gettysburg Railroad (1837-1839); contractor, Wiconisco Canal; farmer; hotel proprietor, Millersburg (1841-1842); elected as a Whig to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1851; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1852); contractor, Erie and New York Railroad (1855-1856); reelected to the House as a Republican in 1861 and 1862; died, March 23, 1881 in Halifax Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania; interred, Oak Hill Cemetery, Millersburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.
