MAYER, Nathaniel, a Representative from Lancaster County; born, June 3, 1827 in Wheatland Mills (now Lancaster Township), Lancaster County, Pa.; farmer; partner, Boyd and Mayer’s, lumber and coal business; director, Peach Bottom Railway; postmaster, United States Postal Service, New Providence (1849-1852); postmaster, United States Postal Service, Buck (1852-1860); unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania House of Representatives (1861); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1862 and as a Union Republican in 1863; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1864); died, February 12, 1874 in Drumore Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania; interred, Herr-Moyer Burial Ground, West Lampeter, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
