ELLIS, John C., a Representative from Columbia, Montour, Sullivan and Wyoming Counties; born, January 1, 1821 in Pennsylvania; sergeant, Company D, 53rd Regiment, Pennsylvania Emergency Militia (1863, Civil War); farmer; dry goods merchant; postmaster, United States Postal Service, Exchange, Pa. (1857-1862); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1863 and 1864 terms; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1865 term; died, July 1, 1879 in Pennsylvania; interred, Saint James Episcopal Church Cemetery, Exchange, Montour County, Pennsylvania.
