BENTON, Abram M., a Representative from Clearfield, Elk, Jefferson and McKean Counties; born, October 29, 1816 in Livingston County, NY; lumberman; owner, lumber mills; merchant; director, Western New York and Philadelphia Railroad; director, Coudersport and Port Allegany Railroad; elected, commissioner, McKean County (1854-1858); proprietor, Chapin Tannery (1857-1860); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1860 and 1864 terms; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House for the 1861 term; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1865 term; died, February 5, 1892 in Port Allegany, McKean County, Pennsylvania; interred, Maple Grove Cemetery, Friendship, Allegany County, New York.
