ALEXANDER, Cyrus T., a Representative from Centre County; born, September 10, 1836 in Mifflin County, Pennsylvania; graduated, Dickinson Seminary (now Lycoming College), 1853; lawyer (1859-1887); law partnership with Hon. J. H. Orvis (1863-1874); co-owner and editor, Democratic Watchman (1861-1862); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1864 and 1865 terms; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1866 term; unsuccessful nomination, Chief Clerk, Pennsylvania House of Representatives (1866, 1867); unsuccessful campaign, United States Congress (1874); elected, Pennsylvania State Senate (1879-1882); unsuccessful campaign for reelection to State Senate (1882); proprietor, J. R. & C. T. Alexander, limekiln and coal production (1868-1885); proprietor, implement and seed store (1880-1885); law partner, Alexander & Bower (1874-1887); died, March 17, 1887 in Aiken, Aiken County, South Carolina; interred, Union Cemetery, Bellefonte, Centre County, Pennsylvania.
