BURGWIN, William H., a Representative from Venango and Warren Counties; born, March 27, 1828 in Shropshire, England; attended, Allegheny College; captain, Company E, 58th Regiment, Pennsylvania Emergency Militia (1863, Civil War); teacher and principal, Venango Academy; printer; elected, school superintendent, Venango County (1857-1860); proprietor, American Citizen (1859-1864); elected as a Union Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1863; reelected to the House as a Republican in 1864; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1865); died, January 25, 1866 in Franklin, Venango County, Pennsylvania.
