PURDY, Truman Harvey, a Representative from Northumberland County; born, June 26, 1830 in Purdytown, Wayne County, Pa.; attended, Madison Academy; graduated Lewisburg University (now Bucknell University); editor, Union Argus (1858-1861); owner and editor, Northumberland County Democrat (1861- 1867); publisher, German Democrat; elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1864 and 1865 terms; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1866 term; lawyer (1866-1898); proprietor, Sunbury Gas Light Company; proprietor, Lewisburg Furniture and Planing Mill Works; treasurer, Lewisburg Nail Works; director, Lewisburg Steam Forge; unsuccessful campaign, judge, Northumberland County (1881); died, April 4, 1898 in Sunbury, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania; interred, Pomfret Manor Cemetery, Sunbury, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania.
