STERNER, Franklin D., a Representative from Philadelphia County; born in Orwigsburg, Schuylkill County, Pa., December 7, 1827; captain, provost marshall, Philadelphia (Civil War); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1865 and 1866 terms; appointed, Joint Legislative Committee to escort President Lincolns’ body to Pennsylvania (1865); not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1867 term; elected, city council, Philadelphia; president, Enterprise Manufacturing Company; railroad contractor (1880); co-owner, Orwigsburg Shoe Manufacturing Company (1894); died, January 17, 1907 in Pottsville, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania; interred, Union Cemetery, Schuylkill Haven, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania.
