BEMUS, George H., a Representative from Crawford County; born, May 1, 1831 in Pine Grove, Schuylkill County, Pa.; first lieutenant, Company F, 38th Regiment, 9th Pennsylvania Volunteer Reserve (1861-1863, Civil War); colonel, Company F, 58th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1863, Civil War); attorney-at-law; elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1864 and 1865; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1866); unsuccessful campaign, District Attorney, Butler County (1877); died, December 28, 1896 in Corry, Erie County, Pennsylvania; interred, Greendale Cemetery, Meadville, Crawford County, Pennsylvania.
