DENUES, Charles, a Representative from Lancaster County; born, August 28, 1823 in Shrewsbury, York County, Pa.; attended, Lancaster Reformed Seminary; attended, Millersville State Normal School (now Millersville University); studied law under Hon. Thaddeus Stevens; captain, Company E, 135th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1862-1863, Civil War); engaged, construction business; employed, Lancaster Comb Company; elected, justice of the peace, Millersville; teacher; attorney (1845-1898); elected as a Union Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1864 and 1865; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1866); elected, city controller, Lancaster (1888); unsuccessful campaign, mayor of Lancaster (1890); trustee, Millersville State Normal School; died, March 1, 1901 in Lancaster, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania; interred, Zion Church of Millersville Cemetery, Millersville, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
