BARTON, John H., a Representative from Delaware County; born, January 12, 1839 in Middletown Township, Delaware County, Pa.; graduated, Dickinson Seminary (now Lycoming College); captain, Company D, 16th Regiment, Pennsylvania Emergency Militia (1862, Civil War); engaged, sugar refining; chair, Delaware County Republican Committee (1864-1865); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1866; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1867); died, December 23, 1875 in Enterprise, Volusia County, Florida; interred, Chester Rural Cemetery, Chester, Delaware County, Pennsylvania.
