KERNS, James N., a Representative from Philadelphia; born, 1829; dance master; elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1863, 1865, 1866 and 1867 terms; reelected to the House as a Union Republican for the 1864 term; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1868 term; president, Philadelphia Athletics, baseball team; treasurer, Philadelphia Union Republican Committee; appointed, United States Marshal, Eastern District of Pennsylvania (1871-1887); died, May 4, 1901 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania; interred, Odd Fellows Cemetery, Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania (defunct); removed to Lawnview Cemetery, Rockledge, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.
