WINGER, Benjamin Franklin, a Representative from Franklin and Perry Counties; born, November 27, 1835 in Lancaster County, Pa.; captain, Union Horse Guards Company, Pennsylvania Cavalry (1857-1859); aide-de-camp and captain, Gen. William McAllen, Pennsylvania Militia (1860-1861); lieutenant colonel, Battery D, 112th Regiment, 2nd Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery (1862-1866, Civil War); merchant; elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1867; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1868); attorney (1871-1907); proprietor and editor, Greencastle Press (1878-1907); died, May 31, 1907 in Greencastle, Franklin County, Pennsylvania; interred, Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg, Franklin County, Pennsylvania.
