John Boyd, a Representative from Crawford County; born, July 13, 1838 in Espyville, Crawford County, Pa.; attended, Allegheny College; honorary master of arts, Allegheny College, 1885; Ph.D., Allegheny College, 1893; corporal, Company I, 39th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1861-1862, Civil War); captain, Company H, 145th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1862-1864, Civil War); engaged, mercantile business; elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1866 and 1867; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1868); Methodist Episcopal preacher; died, April 23, 1907 in New Castle, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania; interred, Forest Hill Cemetery, Fredonia, Chautauqua County, New York.
