McCAMANT, Samuel, a Representative from Blair County; born, March 23, 1833 in Tyrone, Blair County, Pa.; bookkeeper and clerk, Tyrone Forges (1856-1857); manager, Bald Eagle Iron Furnace (1857-1861); elected, sheriff, Blair County (1862-1864); co-owner, Bell & McCamant, iron business (1864-1868); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1866 and 1867; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1868); engaged, lumber business; owner and operator, planing mill (1868-1901); unsuccessful campaign, United States Congress (1884); gubernatorial appointee, board of managers, Huntingdon Reformatory (1888-1901); died, March 30, 1901 in Tyrone, Blair County, Pennsylvania; interred, Grandview Cemetery, Tyrone, Blair County, Pennsylvania.
