SMITH, David L., a Representative from Allegheny County; born, February 4, 1826 in Carlisle, Cumberland County, Pa.; first lieutenant, Company A, 2nd Virginia Volunteer Infantry (Civil War, 1861); chief commissary, 12th Army Corps, United States Army (1862-1863, Civil War); lieutenant colonel, aide-de-camp, General Meade, 5th Army Corps, United States Army (1863-1866, Civil War); farmer; chief clerk, commissioner’s office, Allegheny County; elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as an American Party candidate for the 1855 term; reelected to the House as a Republican for the 1868 term; elected, alderman, Allegheny City (1870-1881); unsuccessful campaign, mayor, Allegheny City; elected, council, Allegheny City; elected, school board, Allegheny County; died, 1902 in Chester County, Pennsylvania; interred, Upper Octorara Church Cemetery, Parkesburg, Chester County, Pennsylvania.
