JACKSON, Samuel McCartney, a Representative from Armstrong County; born, September 24, 1833 in Apollo, Armstrong County, Pa.; attended, Jacksonville Academy, Indiana, Pa.; drummer boy, Pennsylvania Militia (1845); major, Company G, 40th Regiment, 11th Pennsylvania Volunteer Reserves (1861-1862, Civil War); colonel, 40th Regiment, 11th Pennsylvania Volunteer Reserves (1863-1864, Civil War); farmer; merchant; elected, burgess, Apollo; postmaster, United States Postal Service, Apollo (1861); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1868 and 1869 terms; engaged, oil business; cashier, Apollo Savings Bank (1871-1882); elected, Pennsylvania State Senate (1875-1876); appointed, Collector of Internal Revenue, 23rd district (1882-1885); elected, president, Apollo Savings Bank (1885-1906); organizer and treasurer, P.H.
