PAINTER, William Pusey Israel, a Representative from Lycoming, Snyder and Union Counties; born, August 21, 1818 in Sunbury, Northumberland County, Pa.; typesetter, Columbia County Register (1831-1836); typesetter, various publications (1836-1838); publisher, Mauch Chunk (now Jim Thorpe) Courier (1838-1841); proprietor and publisher, Muncy Luminary (1841-1846); druggist (1847-1891); elected, burgess, Muncy (1854); elected, justice of the peace, Muncy (1855-1868); appointed, Superintendent of Public Printing, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (1861); secretary to council, Muncy (1864-1869); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1869 term; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1870 term; elected, associate judge, Lycoming County (1871-1876); attorney (1876-1892); died, September 12, 1895, Muncy, Lycoming County; interred, Muncy Cemetery, Muncy, Lycoming County, Pa.
