ARMSTRONG, Alvin Backus, a Representative from Cameron, Clinton and McKean Counties; born, July 26, 1838 in Cuba, Allegany County, NY; attended, Rushford Academy, 1854; store clerk; clerk, Ford and Smith merchants; co-owner, Irons and Armstrong grocers (1857-1860); admitted to the bar (1861);  proprietor, A. B. Armstrong & Co., grocer (1861-1866); proprietor, drug store; elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1870 term, not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1871 term; farmer; justice of the peace (10 years); elected, council, Smethport, Pa.; organizer, Smethport Water Company; managing director and treasurer, Smethport Gas Company; president, Grange National Bank, Smethport; died, August 9, 1916 in Smethport, McKean County, Pennsylvania; interred, Rose Hill Cemetery, Smethport, McKean County, Pennsylvania.
