BUFFINGTON, Andrew Jackson, a Representative from Beaver and Washington Counties; born, July 14, 1832 in Washington County, Pa.; attended, Beaver College and Musical Institute (now Arcadia University); private, Company F, 6th Regiment, Pennsylvania Emergency Militia (1862, Civil War); teacher; assistant principal (1858-1861); superintendent, public schools, Washington County (1861-1866, 1875-1878); principal, Southwestern State Normal School at California (now Pennsylvania Western University, California) (1866-1867); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1869 and 1870 terms; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1871 term; farmer; elected, commissioner, Henry County, Iowa; died, April 16, 1907 in Bentleyville, Washington County, Pennsylvania; interred, Beallsville Cemetery, Beallsville, Washington County, Pennsylvania.
