STEELE, Matthew M., a Representative from Armstrong County; born, August 20, 1818 in Ireland; first sergeant, Company D, 62nd Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1861-1862, Civil War); florist; farmer; elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1870 term, unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House for the 1871 term; died, December 5, 1904 in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania; interred, Rehoboth Reformed Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Kittanning, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania.
