PORTER, John, a Representative from Cambria County; born, August of 1840 in Washington Township, Cambria County, Pa.; second lieutenant, Company A, 55th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1861-1862, Civil War); clerk; engaged, lumber business; elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1868 and 1869; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1870); proprietor, sawmill and lumber yard, Johnstown; landlord, Miller House; employed, passenger services, Pennsylvania Railroad, Pittsburgh; employed, Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, Braddock; elected, justice of the peace, Braddock (1885-1886); died, February 20, 1886 in  New Florence, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania; interred, Old Holy Name Cemetery, Ebensburg, Cambria County, Pennsylvania.
