HUMPHREYS, Miles S., a Representative from Allegheny County, born, August 25, 1837 in Richmond, Va.; ironworker; elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1869, 1870, and 1871 terms; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1872 term; elected, Pennsylvania State Senate (1872-1874); labor union officer, Sons of Vulcan and Amalgamated Association of Iron and Steel Workers (1876); unsuccessful campaign, mayor, Pittsburgh (1877, 1881); director, Pennsylvania Bureau of Labor Statistics (1879-1883); chief, fire department, Pittsburgh (1891-1913); died, February 7, 1925 in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania; interred, Union Dale Cemetery, Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
