WILCOX, William Pendleton, a Representative from Clearfield, Elk, Jefferson, McKean and Warren Counties; born, May 30, 1794 in Herkimer County, NY; sergeant, New York Militia (1814, War of 1812); elected, sheriff, Alleghany County, NY; agent, Richards and Jones Land Company; postmaster, United States Postal Service, Port Allegany, Pa.; engaged, lumber business; proprietor, sawmill, tannery, hotel and tavern; associate judge, Elk County (3 nonconsecutive terms); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1838-1839 and the 1840 term; elected, sheriff, McKean County; elected, Pennsylvania State Senate (1843-1845: Speaker of the Senate, 1845); reelected to the House for the 1858 and 1859 terms; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1860 term; railroad contractor; died, April 13, 1868 in Port Allegany, McKean County, Pennsylvania; interred, Fairview Cemetery, Port Allegany, McKean County, Pennsylvania.
