SCHWARTZ, Hiram H., a Representative from Berks County; born, December 21, 1830 in Maxatawny Township, Berks County, Pa.; graduated, Franklin and Marshall College, 1855; studied law under Hon. Samuel A. Bridges; teacher; elected, superintendent, Lehigh County Schools (1857-1860); lawyer (1858-1891); elected, justice of the peace; elected as Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1869, 1870, and 1871; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1872); trustee, Kutztown State Normal School (now Kutztown University of Pennsylvania); appointed, judge, Orphan’s Court, Berks County (1883-1891); died, August 25, 1891 in Kutztown, Berks County, Pennsylvania; interred, Egypt Cemetery, Egypt, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania.
