McCRACKEN, George W., a Representative from Butler, Lawrence and Mercer Counties; born, January 30, 1838 in Mercer (now Lawrence) County, Pa.; graduated, Westminster College, 1861; first lieutenant and adjutant, Company G, 39th Regiment, 10th Pennsylvania Volunteer Reserve (1861-1864, Civil War); lieutenant colonel, 191st Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (not mustered due to wounds, Civil War); teacher; surveyor; engineer; elected, superintendent, Lawrence County schools (1866-1869); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1869 and 1872; proprietor and editor, Lawrence Guardian (1872-1892); president, Western Mutual Fire Insurance Co.; elected, Pennsylvania State Senate (1881-1884); civil engineer; died, September 23, 1904 in Washington, District of Columbia; interred, Oak Park Cemetery, New Castle, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania.
