HEIGES, George, a Representative from York County; born, May 18, 1842 in Dillsburg, York County, Pa.; attended, York County Academy (now York College of Pennsylvania); first lieutenant, Company I, 209th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1864-1865, Civil War); teacher; principal, York Classical and Normal Institute; principal, York Academy (now York College); deputy superintendent, common schools of York County (1 year); studied law under D.J. Williams; lawyer (1867-1900); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1872 and 1873; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1874); appointed, auditor board, York County; counsel, commissioners, York County (1877-1879); elected, chief burgess, York (1885-1886); died, December 3, 1900 in York, York County, Pennsylvania; interred, Prospect Hill Cemetery, York, York County, Pennsylvania.
