SHEIBLEY, John Holman, a Representative from Dauphin and Perry Counties; born in Landisburg, Perry County, Pa., November 17, 1827; attended, Madison County Academy, Va., (1849); printer apprentice, Chambersburg Reformed Messenger; employed, printer, Johnston Type Foundry (1850-1853); publisher and editor, People’s Advocate and Democrat Press (1853-1868); appointed, local assessor of internal revenue (1861-1865); publisher and editor, New Bloomfield People’s Advocate and Press (1868-1900); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1873; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1874); school director, Landisburg; elected, council, Landisburg; stockholder, Perry County Railroad; unsuccessful campaign, United States Congress (1888); died, December 1, 1900 in Landisburg, Perry County, Pennsylvania; interred, Bloomfield Cemetery, New Bloomfield, Perry County, Pennsylvania.
