STONE, Charles Warren, a Representative from Venango and Warren Counties; born, June 29, 1843 in Groton, Middlesex County, Ma.; graduated, Williams College, 1863; elected, school superintendent, Warren County (1865-1866); elected, council, Warren; co-founder, Warren Public Library; trustee, The Pennsylvania State College (now The Pennsylvania State University); attorney-at-law; elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1869 and 1870; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1871); elected, Pennsylvania State Senate (1877-1878); elected, Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania (1879-1882); appointed, Secretary of State, Pennsylvania (1887-1890); elected, United States Congress (November 4, 1890-1899); unsuccessful campaign for reelection to Congress (1898); unsuccessful campaign, Governor of Pennsylvania (1898); engaged, lumbering business; died, August 15, 1912 in Conewago, Warren County, Pennsylvania; interred, Oakland Cemetery, Pleasant Township, Warren County, Pennsylvania.
