NEWMYER, John C., a Representative from Allegheny County; born, June 14, 1848 in Westmoreland County, Pa.; M.A., Western University of Pennsylvania (now University of Pittsburgh), 1867; lawyer (1869-1892); coal miner; proprietor, Newmyer and Sons Coal Mining; elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1873 and 1874 terms; elected, Pennsylvania State Senate (1875-1882, 1887-1890); elected, president pro-tempore (1876-1877); operations manager: Dawson Electric Power and Light Company, and Washington Run Rail Road; director and board chair: Star Supply Company, First National Bank of Dawson and Star Junction, and Industrial Bank of Pittsburgh; appointed, prothonotary, Pennsylvania Supreme Court, Western district (1889-1892); died, June 21, 1892 in Swissvale, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania; interred, Homewood Cemetery, Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
