SMITH, George Fairlamb, a Representative from Chester County; born, February 28, 1840 in West Chester, Chester County, Pa.; B.A., Yale University, 1858; M.A., Yale University, 1864; first lieutenant and quartermaster, 2nd Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1861, Civil War); captain, Company B, 49th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1861-1862, Civil War); colonel, 61st Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1862-1865, Civil War; prisoner of war, 1862); lawyer (1864-1877); elected, District Attorney, Chester County (1869-1872); elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representative as a Republican for the 1875 and 1876 terms; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1877 term; gubernatorial appointee, judge advocate general, Pennsylvania National Guard (1877); died, October 18, 1877 in West Chester, Chester County, Pennsylvania; interred, Oaklands Cemetery, West Chester, Chester County, Pennsylvania.
