SHUGERT, Samuel Townsend, a Representative from Centre County; born February 20, 1809 in Bellefonte, Centre County, Pa.; editor and proprietor, Centre Democrat; employed, United States Patent Office; presidential appointee, Acting Commissioner of Patents, United States Patent Office (1858-1861); elected, Pennsylvania State Senate (1867-68); elected as a Democrat  to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1875 and 1876 terms; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1877 term; died, December 21, 1895 in Bellefonte, Centre County, Pennsylvania; interred, Union Cemetery, Bellefonte, Centre County, Pennsylvania.
