LOFTUS, Thomas W., a Representative from Luzerne County; born, circa 1838 in Ireland; teacher; elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1873 and 1875; reelected to the House as an Independent in 1874; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1876); unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania State Senate (1876); unsuccessful campaign, United States Congress (1884); unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1896); adjuster and investigator, Old Wayne Life Insurance Company; died, September 19, 1899 in Scranton, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania; interred, St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Olyphant, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania.
