Joy Academy; farmer; teacher (1841-1842); surveyor (1843-1853); engaged, scrivener and surveying business (1853-1866); elected, school director, Lebanon (7 years); elected, engineer, Lebanon (1857); elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as a Republican for the 1862, 1865, 1875, and 1876 terms; engaged, hardware business (1867-1874); elected, mayor, Lebanon (1885-1888); died, February 18, 1893 in Lebanon, Lebanon County, Pennsylvania; interred, Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Lebanon, Lebanon County, Pennsylvania.
