HAYES, Joseph, a Representative from Allegheny County; born, July of 1842 in Pennsylvania; private, Battery L, 204th Regiment, 5th Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery (1864-1865, Civil War); laborer, foundry; roller; elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to serve the 1875 and 1876 terms; appointed, chair, Investigating Committee of the Legislature (1876); not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1877 term; chair, Allegheny County Democratic Committee (1877).
