HARTSHORN, William Ross, a Representative from Clearfield County; born, January 26, 1839 in Curwensville, Clearfield County, Pa.; colonel, Company K, 42nd Regiment, “Bucktails,” Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1861-1864, Civil War; prisoner of war); brevet brigadier general, Company S, 190th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1864-1865, Civil War); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1875 and 1876 terms; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1877 term; employed, governor’s staff, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; superintendent, Public Grounds and Buildings, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (13 years); died, June 12, 1905 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania; interred, Oak Hill Cemetery, Curwensville, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania.
