ERWIN, Ambrose J., a Representative from Northampton County; born, March 9, 1830 in Bethlehem, Northampton County, Pa.; corporal, Company D, 5th Regiment, Pennsylvania Emergency Militia (1862, Civil War); dry goods merchant; co-founder, The Mechanics’ Savings Bank of Bethlehem; elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1874 and 1875; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1876); died, April 23, 1885 in Clifton, St. Lawrence County, New York; interred, Nisky Hill Cemetery, Bethlehem, Northampton County, Pennsylvania.
