BAILY, Dr. Elisha W., a Representative from Chester County, born, October 17, 1821 in Londonderry Township, Chester County, Pa.; graduated, Union Academy; M.D., Jefferson Medical College (now Sidney Kimmel Medical College), 1844; surgeon, 47th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1861-1863, Civil War); health officer, Gen. Woodbury’s command, Key West, Fl., United States Army (1863-1864, Civil War); surgeon, Gen. Sheridan’s command, Army of the Shenandoah, United States Army (1864, Civil War); teacher (2 years); physician; elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as a Republican for 1873 term; reelected to the House for the 1874, 1875, and 1876 terms; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1877 term; died, December 4, 1904 in Sadsbury Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania; interred, Sadsbury Friends Burial Grounds, Christiana, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
