STEWART, John Q., a Representative from Lawrence County; born, September 23, 1844 in Lawrence County, Pa.; private, Battery B, 43rd Regiment, First Pennsylvania Light Artillery (1864-1865, Civil War); teacher; elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1875, 1876, 1877 and 1878 terms; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1879 term; clerk, Pennsylvania Department of Public Instruction (1879-1883); deputy superintendent, Pennsylvania Department of Public Instruction (1883-1905) died, December 4, 1907 in Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania; interred, Paxtang Cemetery, Paxtang, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.
