STEVENS, Adam, a Representative from York County; born, April 23, 1821 in Monroe Township, Cumberland County, Pa.; clerk, dry goods store; tobacconist; farmer; postmaster, United States Postal Service (1849-1853); elected, assessor, tax collector and school director, Newberrytown; elected, justice of the peace, Newberrytown, York County (1853-1863); United States deputy marshal (1862-1866); assistant United States Assessor, York County (1866-1869); elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as a Democrat for the terms of 1875, 1876, 1877 and 1878; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1880); died, April 24, 1887 in Steelton, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania; interred, Paddletown Cemetery, Newberrytown, York County, Pennsylvania.
