NELSON, William M., a Representative from Pike and Wayne Counties; born, October 14, 1826 in Newburgh, Orange County, NY; engaged in the mercantile business; Methodist-Episcopal minister; postmaster, United States Postal Service, Equinunk, Pa. (1855-1861); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1862, 1863, 1864, 1865 and 1868; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1866, 1867, 1869); reelected as a Democrat to the House in 1876 and 1877; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1878); elected, Pennsylvania State Senate (1879-1886); served, chaplain, Pennsylvania State Senate; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the Senate (1886, 1890); unsuccessful campaign, United States Congress (1894, 1902); died, April 5, 1914 in Equinunk, Wayne County, Pennsylvania; interred, Equinunk Cemetery, Equinunk, Wayne County, Pennsylvania.
