GILLESPIE, James Updegraff, a Representative from Jefferson County; born, Westmoreland County, Pa., on June 26, 1820; engaged in lumbering (1846-1874); farmer; engaged in milling and dry goods merchandising; elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1877 and 1878 terms; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1879 term; elected, delegate, Democratic National Convention (1880); died, November 12, 1895 in Punxsutawney, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania; interred, Circle Hill, Punxsutawney, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania.
