EBERHART, Gilbert Leander, a Representative from Beaver County; born, January 15, 1830 in North Sewickley Township, Beaver County, Pa.; attended, Washington College (now Washington and Jefferson College); quartermaster, Company S, 37th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1861-1864, Civil War); captain, Company B, 15th Regiment (1879) and 10th Regiment (1880-1898), Pennsylvania National Guard; civil engineer, Erie & Pittsburgh Railroad; teacher, Mercer County; superintendent, Mercer County schools; superintendent, Freedmen’s Schools, state of Georgia (1865-1867); lawyer (1870-1907); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1877 term; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1878); owner and editor, Weekly Tribune and Daily Tribune of Beaver Falls (8 years); elected, burgess, New Brighton (1883-1886); died, December 22, 1907 in New Brighton, Beaver County, Pa.; interred, Grove Cemetery, New Brighton, Beaver County, Pa.
