DOUGLASS, William Strothers, a Representative from Philadelphia County; born, October 2, 1846 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pa.; landsman, “U.S.S. Princeton,” (1864), wardroom steward, “T. A. Ward,” and “U.S.S. Vandalia,” United States Navy (1864-1865, Civil War); stone cutter; engaged, marble and sandstone business; assistant assessor, United States International Revenue (1872); sergeant-at-arms. Pennsylvania House of Representatives (1874); elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as a Republican in 1874, 1875, 1876 and 1877; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1878); elected, city commissioner, Philadelphia (1879-1888); building contractor; died, July 8, 1921 in Charlestown, Allegany County, Maryland; interred, Mount Moriah Cemetery, Philadelphia. Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.
