BOWERS, Samuel A., a Representative from Cumberland County; born, March 15, 1823 in Orrstown, Franklin County, Pa.; captain, Pennsylvania National Guard (7 years); teacher and school director, Carlisle; proprietor, general store; co-owner, hardware store (1865-1875); proprietor, dry goods store (1875-1904); elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as a Democrat to serve the 1877 and 1878 terms; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1879 term; treasurer, Poor House and House of Employment, Cumberland County; died, April 20, 1904 in Carlisle, Franklin County, Pennsylvania; interred, Ashland Cemetery, Carlisle, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania.
