STEPHENS, John Wesley, a Representative from Washington County; born, December 14, 1823 in Elizabeth, Allegheny County, Pa.; attended, Allegheny College; farmer; engaged, foundry business; merchant; postmaster, United States Postal Service, Bentleyville (1861-1867); appointed, draft commissioner, Washington County (Civil War); elected, justice of the peace; elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1878; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1880); engaged, real estate business; died, January 29, 1916 in Monongahela, Washington County, Pennsylvania; interred, Monongahela Cemetery, Monongahela, Washington County, Pennsylvania.
