SHERWOOD, George Emile, a Representative from York County; born, August 17, 1843 in Hampton, Elizabeth County, Va.; attended, Unger’s High School, Baltimore, Md.; private, Company I, 26th Regiment, Pennsylvania Emergency Militia (1863, Civil War); first sergeant, Sanno’s Independent Company, Pennsylvania Volunteer Cavalry (1864, Civil War); private, Company E, 92nd Regiment, 9th Pennsylvania Cavalry (1864-1865, Civil War); editor, York German Gazette; elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as a Democrat to serve the 1877, 1878 and 1879 terms; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1880); elected, justice of the peace, York; died, April 27, 1891 in York, York County, Pennsylvania; interred, Prospect Hill Cemetery, York, York County, Pennsylvania.
